Probation period in Punjab for a government employee has been increased from 2 year to 3 years. This amendment was made in the Punjab Civil service rules on 5th October 2016. According to this amendment probation period for Punjab govt. employee will be three years instead of two years. amending the service rule the letter says that this rules will be applicable from the date of publication that is 5th October 2016. So according to this amendment all the future advertisements for the vacant post of any government service in Punjab will fall under three years of probation period.

Many of the government servants who have joined their duties prior to the this new amended rules on dated 5th October 2016 are aggrieved by the decision of their concerned department,  as their department increased their probation period from 2 to 3 years. But at the time of advertisement, probation period was of two years. When they got their appointment letter they were informed that their probation period will be of three years instead of two years. But this is totally illegal step.

The above letter is issued by Chief secretary Punjab Government.  The letter says that probation period for government servant in Punjab will be of two years for those whose recruitment process was started before the new amended rules of three years probation period.The letter clearly mentions that if the recruitment process was started before 5th October 2016 for any Punjab govt.  service , the probation period will be of two years not three years.

" प्रोबेशन पीरियड को 2 से 3 वर्ष करने के नए रूल से पहले अगर पंजाब राज्य के किसी भी सरकारी भर्ती का विज्ञापन जारी हो चूका था, भले ही उनकी नियुक्ति नए रूल्स लागू होने के बाद हुई हो उनका प्रोबेशन पीरियड पुराने नियमों के अनुसार 2 वर्ष ही रहेगा। "


Probation Period In Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Union Territory Chandigarh has amended its service rules. Now a person who enters in any government job of UT Chandigarh has to complete 3 years of service on probation period. Prior to this amendment probation period in Chandigarh government service was 2 years.


Now Chandigarh UT has amended its service rules. UT has enhanced the period of probation for Govt. employees. It is necessary to mention that Chandigarh Administration follows Punjab Civil Service rules. On 5th September 2016 government of Punjab state amended its service rules. Amending the Punjab Civil service rules government of Punjab enhanced the period of probation from two to three years. Chandigarh admin has been following Punjab Civil Service Rules from 1992. So it was necessary for UT to follow these amended probation period rules. On 30th November 2016, Chandigarh administration endorsed the letter, in which it is clearly mentioned that now the probation period of any govt. service in union territory Chandigarh will be of 3 years. There is one thing to keep in mind that the employees who have joined their service prior to this amendment will not be covered under this rule. These amended rules will be applicable to the future recruitment of Union Territory Chandigarh. Their probation period will be of 3 years instead of 2 yearss.
