Two Degrees At The Same Time
UGC has told that students can not undertake two degrees at the same time or they can not undertake two degrees simultaneously. UGC further mentioned that it had received suggestions from statutory councils. The response of the council does not endorse the idea of allowing a student to undertake two degrees at the same time. Students can not pursue two degrees simultaneously. In the month of January UGC said that their consultations on undertaking two degrees at the same time have not received positive response.
“Therefore, the Universities shall conduct their programmes in accordance with the First Degree and Master Degree Regulations, 2003 prescribed by the UGC and also follow the norms and parameters prescribed by the Statutory Council concerned, wherever relevant,” the notice signed by UGC Secretary Jaspal S Sandhu said.

What’s the harm in pursuing two degree courses simultaneously?
A committee comprising experts of UGC had two years ago recommended that students admitted in a regular degree course should be allowed to undertake an additional degree simultaneously under open or distance education mode either from the same university or from different university.
However, students should not be allowed to undertake two regular degrees at the same time, the committee had held.

UGC accepted a proposal to permit students to undertake two degree programme simultaneously in 2013. Expert committee of the commission recommended in 2012 that students admitted in a regular degree course should be permitted to take up an additional degree simultaneously under open or distance education mode.
The committee further pointed that a student admitted in a degree programme under regular mode may be allowed to pursue a maximum of one additional degree programme simultaneously under open/distance mode from the same or a different university. However, two degree programmes under regular mode may not be allowed simultaneously as it may create logistic, administrative and academic problems.
